Smart world heritage city

– preserve, develop and dynamically use the entire urban space jointly and based on data.

The World Heritage Site plays a particularly important role in our program. The city of Bamberg is a unique work of art in terms of urban development – the historic substance of Bamberg’s old town has been largely preserved in its original form and over 1,000 buildings are listed. This results in special conditions for urban development. On the one hand, historic Bamberg must be preserved, while at the same time Bamberg should be a forward-looking city that is equipped for the challenges of our time.

Sustainable city

– think and design urban space in a social, inclusive and ecological way.

The aim is to improve communal life in Bamberg for everyone using digital means. Sustainability is viewed from different angles. In order to get a sustainable city off the ground, the focus is on families and people with disabilities as well as Bamberg’s forests and tree population.

The potential of data

– making information usable for the entire urban society in a way that is oriented towards the common good.

One aim is to promote the free flow of information and data in Bamberg. This opens up a wide range of new opportunities for the people of Bamberg. For example, the limited urban space can be better utilized on the basis of data by managing traffic more efficiently. Urban development policy decisions can be optimized on the basis of data and made more transparent and comprehensible through participation processes. The following applies to data: use the public, protect the private!

Innovative strength in Bamberg

– long-term cooperation between urban society and science as well as supra-regional networks.

Making a difference in the city together, ensuring a better quality of life and involving as many people as possible – that was and is our aim. Networking with various stakeholders is an important tool in the Smart City program. The resulting innovative power can be used sustainably for projects and ensures a better connection between science, city administration, society and business beyond the Smart City Bamberg program.
