Our vision for Bamberg

The people of Bamberg understand how decisions are made in the city council and how they affect life in their city. Trust in democratic processes is strengthened, and people are happy to participate actively in city politics. Together, we make good decisions—for an open, forward-looking Bamberg!

Technology

For this project, a custom-developed artificial intelligence system analyzes publicly available minutes of city council decisions and visualizes the results on a map. The project is based on the City Council Information System and the municipal geographic information system, both of which are actively used and integrated in the project. Due to the short project duration, there will be no publicly available application by the end of the funding period in August 2026. However, it can be further developed afterward.

Project description

DECIDE simplifies access to city council decisions and makes them understandable to everyone. The decisions are presented clearly and organized by topic. The connections between the decisions are also highlighted. A map shows which decisions affect which city districts. This makes it easier for the people of Bamberg to understand why certain measures were taken and what their effects are.

The benefits at a glance:

  • A resident would like to know more about political decisions regarding climate protection in Bamberg
  • She doesn’t have to bother going through all the meeting resolutions
  • Instead, she finds a summary of all relevant decisions in a single application.

„The EU project DECIDe lays the groundwork for organizing local government decision-making data in a shared data space within the EU in such a way that abstract data is transformed into concrete, practical recommendations for action aimed at creating a more efficient and modern administration. At the same time, it strengthens the trust of the urban community through transparent, scientifically sound decision-making processes by ensuring that municipal resources are targeted specifically where they yield the greatest social benefit. “
