Our vision for Bamberg

Science and practice go hand in hand: the development of a smart Bamberg is scientifically monitored, ideas are examined for their feasibility and the implementation of projects is critically reviewed. This benefits the Smart City program and research, but also Bamberg and the people in it!

Technology

None of the Smart City applications are created at the Smart City Research Lab. Instead, valuable accompanying research is carried out to make them more sustainable and better.

Project description

Many ideas and measures in a smart city are new and innovative. This raises questions like these: What effect does the measure have on urban society? What are the advantages and disadvantages? What long-term consequences could arise, is there perhaps already experience from other cities from which we can learn? The Smart City Research Lab at Otto Friedrich University is dedicated to the various questions surrounding smart cities in the form of feasibility studies, test balloons, student projects and entire doctoral projects. This involves interdisciplinary work in order to look at the topics from different perspectives.

What topics has the SCRL addressed, among others?

  • Interactive map with feel-good places and mindfulness exercises
  • Preliminary study on the anonymized recording of visitor flows
  • Data collection and visualization for the common good
  • 3D models in monument preservation and history education

„At the Smart City Research Lab, we want to actively support the transformation of municipalities into smart cities. In particular, we are investigating the interaction between people, technologies and places, embedded in the need for ecological, economic and social sustainability. After all, the aim of smart city solutions should be to make municipalities fit for the future, even in times of climate change, to remain affordable and to maintain social cohesion. “
