Our vision for Bamberg

Instead of crawling around the city blocks in their cars, people can find a free parking space quickly and efficiently. The Park+Ride facilities are particularly popular: many people leave their cars there at low cost and can reach the city center within a few minutes by bus. This saves time, nerves and money for those looking for a parking space. In addition, traffic and the associated emissions are minimized, which benefits not only residents.

Technology

Sensors measure the occupancy of parking spaces. Among other things, surface sensors are used for this. This information is displayed in real time in the Bamberg app.

Project description

The occupancy of parking spaces is recorded digitally and displayed in real time in the Bamberg app. The initial focus is on recording parking spaces for people with severe disabilities. In a second step, other parking spaces in public areas, such as public parking garages, can also be integrated. In cooperation with the municipal utilities and other operators, the information will be compiled on the data platform and made available on the Internet and in the Bamberg app. In a final step, it will be examined whether and how this information could be displayed on digital information boards. This way, drivers know at a glance where the nearest free parking space is located. Efficient and environmentally friendly alternatives such as Park+Ride services as well as various parking garages are actively advertised to motivate drivers to use them and alleviate the tense parking situation in the city center.
