Our vision for Bamberg

Many people in Bamberg take part in the city administration’s participation processes online. They can also easily follow ongoing discussions and have their say. The exchange in the discussion rooms is constructive and respectful, which strengthens social interaction.

Technology

Together with project partners, an ethically responsible AI is being developed that will be integrated into the existing participation platform www.bamberg-gestalten.de. It includes various functions that promote a reflective debate.

Project description

AI4Deliberation is an EU-funded project. The aim is to involve people more closely in political decision-making processes and thus strengthen trust in democratic institutions. An ethically responsible artificial intelligence (AI) should make participation processes transparent, inclusive and comprehensible. It will summarize discussions so that people can quickly get an overview of the ongoing participation processes. It will also recognize and filter inappropriate language. This approach is being tested in several pilot projects, including on topics such as climate change and Long COVID.

In a nutshell: how does it work?

A heated discussion on an emotionally charged topic is taking place at www.bamberg-gestalten.de.
One-sided arguments would shift the discourse in one direction.
Supported by AI, the discussion is more balanced and false reports are exposed.
This makes it easier for many people to get involved in the discussion.
